Generation to Generation is a program
of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
Generation to Generation (G2G) is a groundbreaking program that seeks to
address the high rate of teen pregnancy within the Ward 8 community of Washington,
DC. The program brings together mothers and daughters along with other
female caregivers and mentors in weekly meetings to encourage intergenerational
conversations that are essential to aiding teenage girls in making healthy
life decisions. Complete program overview
The Generation to Generation program uses a unique approach to achieve positive results within the community it serves. In addition to our own educational workshops G2G uses various comprehensive sexuality curriculums and youth leadership development resources. G2G encourages teenage girls to put honest thought and effort into their futures to delay becoming parents during their teenage years. In addition to facilitating conversations on issues of sexuality and reproductive health, G2G also seeks to empower its participants with activities that promote both cultural awareness and an increased level of self-esteem. The Generation to Generation program was created with the intention of not only positively affecting the lives of teenage girls, but also offering support and guidance to the female guardians that care for them. Weekly program sessions are designed to create a space where adults and youth can address issues of sexuality together. By means of providing an environment for open communication, G2G seeks to help break the generational pattern of teen pregnancy in families. Gatherings promote dialogue amongst female family members on key topics that are often not fully discussed in the household. Mothers, grandmothers, and female caregivers in the G2G program also participate in adult only sessions that aid them in building their parenting, character, and life skills.
Generation to Generation offers an exciting opportunity to women who are interested in having a positive impact on the lives of adolescent females. Our mentor opportunities allow women to have contact with teenage girls who need positive caring role models. In addition to one on one meetings with program participants, mentors are invited to participate in weekly gatherings and attend cultural events to share their stories and provide both inspiration and guidance to G2G participants. Find out more about being a mentor.
Generation to Generation meets every Monday at a designated location from 6pm until 8pm. Each week teens and moms participate in a fun and engaging workshop and enjoy a light dinner. All are welcome. Please call 202-628-7700 ext 24 or e-mail for more details. Download a program brochure.
We are currently working to expand G2G’s work within schools, churches, and community organizations. Please contact us If you are interested in having a G2G facilitator or our Peer Educators visit your group.
